Microsoft has begun testing the option to buy hours of Xbox Cloud Gaming without a Game Pass subscription. The option has been available to eligible Xbox Insiders since Wednesday (21). The company plans to expand the test to more users in November.

The idea is to let players pay for the time they want to spend streaming instead of maintaining a subscription. During the test, participants can buy bundles of hours, play on compatible devices and send Microsoft feedback on the experience.

According to the company, purchased hours do not expire: they remain available until used. The bundles offer an ad-free experience, shorter wait times and higher-quality streaming.

Microsoft has introduced three purchase options at promotional launch prices in the United States. Prices in Brazilian reais are not yet available, and the company has not said how much the bundles will cost in Brazil.

Buying hours, however, does not automatically grant access to every game. To use the service, a game must support cloud streaming, and the player must have access to it through a purchase or an eligible free option. Availability, the game catalog, purchase options and features may also vary by market, device, account and test group.

This is one of the options Microsoft is exploring to expand access to Xbox Cloud Gaming. Xbox Insiders can also test a free, ad-supported streaming option that the company announced earlier. For now, the option to buy hours remains limited to eligible participants, and Microsoft plans to use feedback from the test before expanding the feature.
