Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development and has just received a new addition to its writing team. Rik Godwin, lead writer and associate narrative director at Ubisoft Bordeaux, confirmed that he joined the project a few months ago in a support and consulting role.Godwin’s involvement brings the game a professional connected to several of Ubisoft’s recent productions. The Bordeaux studio has worked as a support team on various projects, led development on Assassin’s Creed Mirage and released Claws of Awaji, the only expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The collaboration also makes sense given the close ties between the two teams. Beyond Good & Evil 2 is being led by Ubisoft Montpellier, while Ubisoft Bordeaux is based in the same region of France. The project has endured one of the longest development cycles in recent gaming history. Beyond Good & Evil 2 was originally announced 18 years ago and reintroduced at E3 2016. Ubisoft has yet to announce a release date, but production continues to move forward, albeit slowly. In recent years, the game brought on Fawzi Mesmar as creative director in an effort to stabilize development. The 20th anniversary edition of Beyond Good & Evil also featured appearances by characters from the sequel, reinforcing the impression that the project has found a clearer direction.Beyond Good & Evil 2 also survived the restructuring Ubisoft carried out earlier this year, which affected projects, brands and studios. At the time, Mesmar said the team remained committed to and focused on delivering the game to players. It is still unclear what the sequel’s final version will look like or whether Ubisoft will keep the name Beyond Good & Evil 2. The company has also not revealed when the title will be released.
