Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is an announced real-time strategy game developed by King Art Games and published by Deep Silver. Revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live in August 2025, it is planned for release in 2026. It is a new series entry rather than a remaster or rerelease of an earlier Dawn of War game, and marks King Art Games’ first announced project in Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 universe.
The game brings the Blood Ravens Space Marine Chapter back to Kronus. That planet was previously the battleground of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, the 2006 expansion developed by Relic Entertainment. Dawn of War IV therefore revisits a named location from the franchise’s strategy-game history, while presenting a new conflict involving four playable factions: Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and the Adeptus Mechanicus.
King Art Games has stated that Dawn of War IV will restore elements associated with the earlier Dawn of War formula, including constructing bases, expanding forces, and commanding large armies in real-time battles. Its announcement emphasized massive clashes rather than a smaller-scale tactical format. Players will lead faction-specific forces, using their respective military identities: Space Marines employ elite armored warriors; Orks rely on brutal, ramshackle warfare; Necrons field ancient mechanical legions; and the Adeptus Mechanicus brings the technology-priests and war machines of Mars into the series’ playable roster.
The announced campaign is intended to be playable alone or cooperatively. The four factions are central to the game’s narrative and gameplay structure, rather than being limited to multiplayer selections. Dawn of War IV will also include competitive multiplayer, allowing players to command the announced armies against other players.
The writing team includes John French, a Black Library author whose Warhammer 40,000 work includes novels and stories focused on Imperial institutions, Space Marines, and the Horus Heresy setting. His involvement connects the game’s story development directly with an established writer of official Warhammer fiction.
Dawn of War IV follows the original Dawn of War, its expansions, Dawn of War II, and Dawn of War III, but is being made by a different developer from Relic Entertainment, the studio responsible for those earlier games. The public reveal has focused on its return to traditional real-time strategy systems, the Blood Ravens’ renewed presence, Kronus, co-operative campaign play, and its four announced factions.
