After three years of invite-only closed testing, Soulframe will open access to everyone on November 6. The fantasy action RPG from the team behind Warframe will enter open alpha, allowing more players to experience the project. The opening will be followed later in November by a major overhaul of the game’s structure. The Prelude 17 update, also known as Verse of the Veilands, will transform Midrath, Soulframe’s expansive open region. Once described as green and peaceful, the territory will be overtaken by corruption, and players will have to help restore it.The changes also aim to make the beginning of the adventure more straightforward. According to creative director Geoff Crookes, the team heard from players who struggled to reach the point where they could freely explore the world. In the new version, the main quest will teach players how to shut down the siphons draining the colors from each region.Restoration will affect what players find along the way: enemies and resources will change as each zone returns to its former state. Secondary activities, such as fishing, will become available during the process. Players will also be able to raise a wolf pup until it becomes a mount.Crookes said players will enter a game that is initially harsher and less welcoming. The update is intended to improve the onboarding experience for new players and give them more autonomy in their decisions from the outset. The director also said the system contributes to the world-building.The November version will not yet be complete. According to Crookes, it will include the functional foundations of what the team has planned for the final game. The opening of testing on November 6 and the arrival of Prelude 17 are separate steps: first, more people will be able to access Soulframe; afterward, Midrath will undergo its transformation.Based on reporting by PC Gamer.
