The Expanse: Osiris Reborn

*The Expanse: Osiris Reborn* is an upcoming third-person action role-playing game from Owlcat Games, the studio behind *Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous* and *Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader*. Announced in 2025, it takes place in the universe of *The Expanse*, the science-fiction series created by James S. A. Corey, the pen name of authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. Rather than retelling the story of James Holden and the Rocinante, the game follows a new protagonist and crew.

The player character is a mercenary working for Pinkwater Security. The story begins on Eros Station, where an encounter with the protomolecule turns an assignment into a fight for survival. Eros is a consequential setting for this particular universe: in *Leviathan Wakes*, the first *Expanse* novel, the station becomes the site of a catastrophic protomolecule experiment. Starting there places the game alongside a recognizable event in the established timeline while leaving room for its own characters and decisions.

Players can choose whether their captain comes from Earth, Mars, or the Belt. Those origins carry meaning in *The Expanse*: the three populations have different histories, interests, and relationships with one another. The captain also has a twin sibling, making a family relationship part of the story regardless of the origin selected. Owlcat has presented the game as a crew-focused RPG in which companions, conversations, and player choices matter alongside combat.

Its third-person perspective marks a change from Owlcat’s earlier, predominantly isometric role-playing games. *Osiris Reborn* also differs from *The Expanse: A Telltale Series*, the 2023 narrative adventure starring Camina Drummer. Both use the same fictional setting, but they are separate games with different protagonists and approaches to play.

The title’s setting supplies more than familiar names. Earth, Mars, and the Belt are political rivals whose tensions shape the original books and television adaptation; the protomolecule threatens all three without respecting their borders. By beginning with a Pinkwater mercenary on Eros, *Osiris Reborn* approaches that crisis from the position of someone outside the series’ principal crew. That premise gives Owlcat a specific corner of *The Expanse* to explore: what happens to an ordinary working crew when one of the setting’s defining disasters reaches them first.
