The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is Bethesda Game Studios’ expanded version of Skyrim, released on November 11, 2021, exactly ten years after the original game. It includes the 2016 Special Edition, which rebuilt Skyrim and its downloadable expansions with improved visual effects and 64-bit support, together with previously released Creation Club content and four additions made for the Anniversary release: Fishing, Survival Mode, Saints and Seducers, and Rare Curios. The game begins with the player as a prisoner being transported to an execution in Helgen. The arrival of the dragon Alduin destroys the settlement and reveals the return of dragons to Skyrim. After learning that they are the Dragonborn, a mortal capable of absorbing a dragon’s soul and using the Thu’um, the player follows a central conflict involving Alduin, the ancient Dragonborn Miraak, and the struggle to protect Tamriel. The main quest eventually leads to Sovngarde, the Nordic afterlife, where the Dragonborn confronts Alduin with the help of legendary heroes. Skyrim’s political storyline concerns the civil war between the Imperial Legion and the Stormcloak rebellion led by Ulfric Stormcloak. Players can support either side, although the broader main quest can temporarily suspend the conflict through negotiations at High Hrothgar. The Dawnguard expansion adds a vampire crisis, the vampire lord Harkon, and the potentially recruitable vampire Serana. Hearthfire allows the player to purchase land, build custom houses, adopt children, and appoint a steward. The Dragonborn expansion takes place partly on Solstheim and centers on Miraak, the first Dragonborn, who serves the Daedric prince Hermaeus Mora. Creation Club additions substantially broaden Anniversary Edition’s activities. Saints and Seducers introduces a questline connected to the Shivering Isles and adds new creatures, items, and environments. Rare Curios expands alchemical ingredients and introduces materials from across Tamriel. Fishing provides a dedicated activity with collectible fish, aquariums, and related quests, while Survival Mode removes fast travel and adds hunger, fatigue, temperature, and disease concerns. The edition remains a single-player open-world role-playing game set in the province of Skyrim. Its skill system allows characters to develop combat, magic, stealth, crafting, and speech through use, while its branching faction quests let one character join organizations such as the Companions, College of Winterhold, Thieves Guild, and Dark Brotherhood. Anniversary Edition therefore preserves Skyrim’s original campaign while presenting its major expansions and a large package of official additional content in one release.
