Lies of P

Lies of P is an action role-playing game developed by Round8 Studio and published by Neowiz Games. It launched on September 19, 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and was available through Xbox Game Pass on release day. The game reimagines Carlo Collodi's The Adventures of Pinocchio rather than adapting Disney's version. Its protagonist, P, is Geppetto's puppet, sent through the fictional city of Krat to find his creator.

Krat is a Belle Epoque-inspired city whose puppet workforce turns murderous in an event called the Puppet Frenzy. A second crisis, the Petrification Disease, has also devastated its inhabitants. P begins after awakening at Krat Central Station, then reaches Hotel Krat, the hub inhabited by survivors including Eugenie, Polendina, Antonia Cerasani, and the butler puppet Pulcinella. Major figures include Geppetto, the inventor Lorenzini Venigni, and Sophia, an unseen guide who communicates with P through the Stargazer fast-travel devices.

The campaign uses a Soulslike structure: P fights ordinary puppets, corrupted humans, and bosses while recovering lost Ergo after death. Ergo is the game's currency and an important part of Krat's lore, as it is associated with puppets and the memories they contain. At Stargazers, players restore health, level attributes, and manage equipment. Weapons can be assembled by combining a blade with a handle, changing their attacks and scaling. P may also equip Legion Arms, mechanical prostheses with distinct functions, and use a grindstone to apply temporary weapon effects.

Dialogue choices often ask P whether to tell the truth or lie. These decisions affect Humanity, a system reflected in messages about P's internal changes and, at certain thresholds, in his appearance and available ending outcomes. The story has multiple endings, with conclusions tied to choices and key late-game decisions. Players can obtain vinyl Records and play them at Hotel Krat; listening to them contributes to Humanity. P is voiced by an actor but remains largely silent, while the game tells much of its story through conversations, item descriptions, documents, and environmental details.

Neowiz announced the game in 2021, and its first public demo arrived in 2022, before the full release. It was directed by Choi Ji-won. Its post-credits scene introduces Dorothy, showing red shoes and a close-up of her feet on a rooftop in Krat. The scene follows the main story and points to Neowiz's planned continuation of this reinterpretive fairy-tale setting rather than a wholly standalone ending.
