Silent Hill f is a standalone entry in Konami’s survival-horror series, announced in October 2022. Unlike the franchise’s familiar American setting, it takes place in 1960s Japan, in the fictional mountain town of Ebisugaoka. The story follows high-school student Shimizu Hinako as her home becomes engulfed by fog and transformed by a disturbing presence. Konami’s official synopsis says Hinako must navigate “twisted paths,” solve puzzles, and confront grotesque monsters while facing choices that shape her fate. Its central imagery contrasts traditionally beautiful Japanese scenery with horror: red floral growths, decaying streets, and bodies or creatures overtaken by uncanny blossoms throughout. Konami entrusted development to NeoBards Entertainment, a Taiwanese studio whose previous work includes support and co-development on games such as Resident Evil Resistance and the online mode for Resident Evil Re:Verse. The project is produced by Motoi Okamoto, who also served as a producer on Silent Hill: The Short Message. Its scenario is written by Ryukishi07 (also rendered Ryukishi 07), the pen name of the Japanese creator associated with the When They Cry visual-novel series, including Higurashi When They Cry and Umineko When They Cry. That appointment is significant because f is marketed as a new Japanese psychological-horror story project. Artist kera handles creature and character design, supplying the game’s distinctive visual identity. Akira Yamaoka, a longtime Silent Hill composer known for music on earlier series installments, contributes music alongside Kensuke Inage. Konami first revealed f through a teaser trailer during its Silent Hill Transmission presentation in 2022. The trailer showed Ebisugaoka being consumed by flowers and introduced its then-unnamed schoolgirl protagonist. A later trailer gave her name as Hinako and presented melee combat with pipes and other improvised weapons. Official material has emphasized that the game will retain exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat, instead of being described solely as cinematic. At a June 2025 State of Play presentation, Konami confirmed a September 25, 2025, release date for Silent Hill f. It is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store. Konami has described the title as an independent story, so players need not have played earlier Silent Hill games to follow it. Even so, its name deliberately preserves the series connection. In the announcement material, producer Motoi Okamoto explained that the letter “f” carries multiple meanings rather than one fixed interpretation. The announced game therefore combines Silent Hill’s legacy.
