007 First Light

007 First Light is an upcoming James Bond action-adventure game developed and published by IO Interactive, the Copenhagen studio best known for creating the Hitman series. Rather than adapting an existing Bond film, the game presents an original story about Bond’s earliest years in the service. Its central premise follows a 26-year-old naval officer who has not yet become the famous 00 agent. After a dangerous incident, he is recruited into MI6 and begins the career that will eventually define him. The game is intended to show Bond before he has established the confidence, reputation, and legendary status associated with the character. Players will therefore encounter an inexperienced version of Bond who is still learning how espionage works and how to survive the competing demands of duty, deception, and personal judgment. IO Interactive has described the story as a new origin adventure rather than a retelling of material from the novels or movies. 007 First Light is being made with IO Interactive’s own approach to large-scale, globe-spanning missions in mind. The announcement trailer showed Bond operating across several international locations and using firearms, stealth, vehicles, and close-quarters combat. The game is designed as a third-person experience, separating it from the first-person presentation of the studio’s modern Hitman titles. It will also include recognizable Bond ingredients such as covert investigations, high-risk infiltration, espionage technology, and elaborate action set pieces. IO Interactive announced the project in 2025 as part of its long-term development of an original James Bond universe. The studio secured the license from Eon Productions and began work on the game under the project name “Project 007” before revealing its final title. The company has stated that 007 First Light is the first game in this planned universe, leaving room for future Bond stories created independently of the film continuity. The game is scheduled for release in 2026. Confirmed platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. IO Interactive has not announced a final release date. The cast includes Patrick Gibson as the voice and performance actor for the young Bond, with other roles featuring established performers including Lennie James and Ariyon Bakare. Because the game is still unreleased, details about its complete mission list, final systems, and ending remain unconfirmed. Its most distinctive promise is a playable origin story: a Bond who is talented but untested, entering MI6 before he becomes 007.
