Gran Turismo 7 is a racing simulation developed by Polyphony Digital and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It launched on March 4, 2022, for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, marking the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Gran Turismo series. Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi returned as producer, and the game combines elements associated with the original Gran Turismo games, including licence tests, a large car collection, tuning, championships, photo modes, and progression through a central campaign.
Its single-player structure is organized around the GT Cafe in a recreated village called Gran Turismo 7’s World Map. Players complete “Menu Books,” objectives that usually ask them to collect particular cars, win races, or visit a manufacturer. Completing menus unlocks further circuits, shops, events, and conversations with automotive designers, racers, and industry figures. The Cafe’s menus provide historical context for selected vehicles, such as Japanese sports cars, European hot hatches, and legendary racing machines.
The game includes three major vehicle-shopping destinations. Brand Central sells modern cars from manufacturers represented in the game, while the Used Car Dealership rotates its inventory. The Legendary Car Dealership offers historically significant and expensive vehicles, with prices that can change over time. Credits earned from races are used to buy cars, upgrades, maintenance services, and cosmetic modifications. Players can also alter suspension, transmission, differential, aerodynamic, braking, and engine-related settings, depending on the vehicle and installed parts.
Gran Turismo 7 features real-world circuits and fictional Gran Turismo venues. Locations include Trial Mountain, High Speed Ring, Deep Forest Raceway, Tokyo Expressway, Suzuka Circuit, Nürburgring Nordschleife, Daytona International Speedway, and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Certain races use dynamic weather and time-of-day systems, allowing track conditions to change during an event. The game’s weather radar can show approaching rainfall, while wet surfaces affect grip.
The title supports traditional controller play and compatible racing wheels. On PlayStation 5, it uses adaptive triggers and haptic feedback through the DualSense controller. A split-screen multiplayer mode and online Sport Mode are also included. Sport Mode organizes ranked races and time trials, using driver and sportsmanship ratings to group competitors.
Post-launch updates expanded the game with cars, events, circuit layouts, and features. The “Spec II” update, released in November 2023, added seven cars, the Lake Louise snow circuit, a new Master Licence, and additional Cafe menus. Gran Turismo 7 also gained PlayStation VR2 support in February 2023, enabling virtual-reality driving for its races and driving experiences.
