Beast of Reincarnation is an action role-playing game from Game Freak, the Japanese studio best known for the Pokémon series. It was announced during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8, 2025, with a release window of 2026. The announcement identified Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud, Steam, and PlayStation 5 as platforms. It is also planned for Xbox Game Pass at launch. Its official premise places the story in Japan in the year 4026, rather than in the contemporary setting shown in the opening trailer. By that point, the game’s Japan has been overwhelmed by the Blight, a corruption central to both its world and its conflict. The official setup names Emma as a “Sealer” who is herself afflicted by the Blight. Her travelling partner is Koo, a dog described as a “Malefact.” Their stated objective is to reach and defeat the Beast of Reincarnation, identified as the origin of the Blight. Thus the title refers directly to the central threat the pair are pursuing, not merely to an unrelated creature encountered during their journey. The reveal trailer presents Emma and Koo moving through ruined, densely overgrown Japanese environments, where vegetation has overtaken roads and structures. Its combat footage shows Emma fighting with a sword while Koo attacks alongside her. Game Freak has characterized the design as “one person, one dog action RPG” combat, making the partnership more than a story device. The trailer also shows enormous hostile creatures and an altered landscape, visualizing the Blight that the plot says Emma and Koo must confront. Although Game Freak is primarily associated with Pokémon, Beast of Reincarnation is being presented under its own new intellectual property rather than as a Pokémon title. The project follows other non-Pokémon games made by the studio, including Tembo the Badass Elephant and Little Town Hero. Microsoft positioned the new game as part of its 2025 showcase lineup, while Game Freak supplied the game’s core setting and character information through the reveal. The trailer gave no final release date beyond 2026, and its announcement did not establish a complete account of Emma’s past or Koo’s origins. What was confirmed is the essential framework: a Blight-cursed Sealer and her canine Malefact cross post-apocalyptic Japan to confront the being responsible for the corruption.
