Monster Hunter Wilds is Capcom's 2025-released action RPG developed and published by Capcom. It launched on February 28, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and Windows PC. It runs on Capcom's RE Engine and continues the series' central premise: hunters track and defeat monsters, then use their materials to forge weapons and armor. Unlike Monster Hunter games released on PlayStation 4, Wilds does not have a PlayStation 4 version or Xbox One edition.
The story takes place in the Forbidden Lands, a previously unexplored region beyond the known territories of the Monster Hunter world. The player character is a hunter sent with the Research Commission after a mysterious expedition reaches the border. Their investigation centers on Arkveld, a rare monster known in the game as the White Wraith. Nata, a boy rescued from that expedition, travels with the group, while Alma serves as its handler and Gemma manages equipment and smithing. The narrative connects local communities, ecological change, and the question of why the Forbidden Lands are becoming increasingly dangerous.
Wilds builds its environments around changing ecological states rather than fixed hunting conditions. In the Windward Plains, for example, sand and storms can alter visibility and monster activity. Herds of Doshaguma can move across the landscape, while Rey Dau appears during the region's dangerous weather state. The Scarlet Forest introduces dense vegetation and waterways, with Lala Barina and Uth Duna among its distinctive threats. Other major areas include the Oilwell Basin, the Iceshard Cliffs, and Ruins of Wyveria.
A major new tool is the Seikret, a rideable mount that carries the hunter across the map, can gather materials while moving, and supports a second weapon. The hunter may switch between weapons during an expedition, making it possible to combine distinct approaches without returning to camp. Focus Mode gives more precise control over attacks and positioning, while highlighting vulnerable wounds on monsters. Wounding and breaking those areas can create openings and produce additional rewards.
Monster Hunter Wilds also retains the series' fourteen weapon types, including Great Sword, Long Sword, Sword and Shield, Dual Blades, Hammer, Hunting Horn, Lance, Gunlance, Switch Axe, Charge Blade, Insect Glaive, Bowguns, and Bow. Focus Mode lets hunters aim attacks and target visible wounds, while the Seikret can carry a second weapon. Cross-play connects supported console and PC players for cooperative hunts. Capcom added Mizutsune in the first post-launch title update in April 2025.
